Roger Waters on Julian Assange

27 Feb

Call me biased if you will. I was hooked on Pink Floyd at fourteen, with Piper at the Gates of Dawn and the hit single, See Emily Play. That was May ’67 and I’ve been listening ever since.

I’m not besotted though. I wouldn’t big up Roger Waters if not for his unwavering stance on the most outrageous abuses of our time, including but not confined to Palestine, the venally driven dirty war on Syria and the hunting down of Julian Assange for speaking truth to arrant power.

Judge for yourself. A few days ago, on the eve of the Assange Extradition Hearing, this highly intelligent and extremely well informed man spoke at length to Social Media Producer Farhaan Ahmed on RT’s excellent Going Undergound programme. He’s preceded by would be Deputy Leader Richard Burgon, and followed by Steve Coogan on the subject of Greed.

But the bulk of the programme – 4:10-21:35 of 28 minutes – sees Waters flowing crystal clear.
