Hunt, a Sunak supporter at the centre of plans to stop Truss becoming Tory leader, will be as keen as anyone for the axe to fall on her neck\u2014whatever he says in public.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsws.org\/en\/articles\/2022\/10\/14\/qocf-o14.html?pk_campaign=newsletter&amp;pk_kwd=wsws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>WSWS, October 14<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As its occupant of just thirty-eight days <span id='easy-footnote-1-93529' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/steelcityscribblings.uk\/wp\/2022\/10\/14\/britains-new-chancellor-of-the-exchequer\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1-93529' title='Most report thirty-nine days but I used MS Excel&amp;#8217;s date function to subtract 6\/9\/22 from 14\/10\/22. So unless my enemies calculated the hours and rounded up, their numeracy skills are on a par with TrussTweng&amp;#8217;s. Not that this affects the bottom line. Be it thirty-eight days or thirty-nine, Kwarteng&amp;#8217;s tenure is the second shortest in UK history, though the man who romps in at numero uno had a better excuse. Says the Guardian under the header, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2022\/oct\/14\/liz-truss-kwasi-kwarteng-sacking-u-turn-hanging-by-thread\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Truss premiership \u2018hanging by thread\u2019 after Kwarteng sacking and latest U-turn<\/strong><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"dcr-1vtk2mf\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">The appointment of Hunt infuriated some of Truss\u2019s earliest backers who endorsed her tax cutting plan.
