Praise be to God for the downfall of that wicked man, Bashar al-Assad! Those receding parts of Syria not swallowed by Israel, Turkiye and the US are now under the control of Al Qaeda/ISIS cut-out, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham. Now rebranded as “diversity-friendly” – though its Saudi born leader just pushed back elections from “next month” to four years hence – HTS has appointed its Interim Justice Minister, a delightful chap by the name of Shadi Al-Waisi.
Here we see him in 2015, overseeing the public execution in an Idlib Province ruled by Al Nusra Front, another AQ/ISIS rebranding – it’s hard, I know, to keep up with the nomenclature – of two women for adultery and prostitution. Be warned, the video is disturbing.

I experienced unseemly schadenfreude when HTS would not shake the hand of German Green Party minister, Annalena Baerbock, during a courtesy visit to the new regime she and her fellow globalists so enthusiastically enabled. Because she’s a warmonger instrumental to the tanking of her country’s economy? No, stupid – because she’s a person with a vagina!
But back to Mr Al-Waisi, verified by voice and facial matching to have indeed been the judge who ordered and oversaw those executions. We can’t entirely rule out the possibility of Syria’s Alawites, Christians, Druze, Judaists, Shia and incorrectly aligned Sunni being less than totally reassured by this statement, apropos his new job, from an HTS spokesman …
The content of the video presented to us documents the enforcement of the law at a specific time and place, where the procedures were carried out in accordance with the laws in effect at that time and as part of a procedural agreement. However, we would like to point out that this process reflects a stage we have moved beyond, in light of the current legal and procedural transformations, which makes it inappropriate to generalize it or use it to describe the current stage, given the differing circumstances and references.
… but its claim to have seen the light and “moved beyond” may satisfy the incurably credulous, who, having learned the square root of fuck-all from the fate of Iraq and Libya, cheer-led for the fall of Assad. What can I possibly say to them, other than this was all so dismally predictable? 1

- In my post yesterday, On the state we’re in, I wrote:
… it is now impossible for all but the very stupid and/or wilfully blind to fail to see a US empire looking to set the Middle East ablaze in the name of ‘democracy’, and in the ashes build a new order answerable to Washington. To this end it is as happy to use a genocidal client state, and a medievalist jihadism it condemns but has been arming for decades, as it is to use neo-Nazis in the Ukraine. In their twilight stages empires find themselves obliged – in this case due to the ‘optics’ of sending their young to kill and be killed thousands of miles from home in wars which can be supplied but not won by aerial and naval power – to use proxies they think they can control.
