I write so much on the insanity and venality of the world, yet life is full of endless beauty. I think it the hardest thing to hold, in the same breath, taking in both and overlooking neither, life’s vast and kaleidoscopic positivity alongside the world’s needless ugliness. Maybe it’s literally impossible to do that – like trying simultaneously to rotate hand clockwise; foot anti-clockwise – but after writing my post of yesterday, I feel intensely the need to reconnect with that beauty.
I’m blessed of course: having the magnificent Porter Valley and Whitely Woods on my doorstep and, in this the most visually splendid month of the year, legs that work, a phone camera in my pocket and a trick or two up my sleeve.
