On crying wolf and confirmation bias

I’ve written about this before: circulation on social media of information which is false – as in this piece on gun control and homophobia – or incorrectly understood – as in this on Syria – to prop up views I broadly share.

Truth matters, for practical as well as ethical reasons. For pessimists like me, fighting against what seem insuperable odds of entrenched power and mass credulity, it’s all we have.

So when I found, a few minutes ago, a link to this dangerous nonsense on the so-called World News Daily Report, I was none too happy.

  1. There is a time and place for satire, this misleading hoax is a liability and and threat to Alt. media credibility, something the corrupt MSM are used to and can ignore, alt. media does not have that luxury. Glad you highlighted this trash and the website disclaimer – definitely one to avoid.
