Even the non participants on Sheffield’s Devonshire Street, Fargate, Church Street and West Street observed in silence as we marched today for Palestine. Traffic at junctions let us pass; soundless save for the single beat, every seven seconds, of our drummers.
Half way up Devonshire Street a young man tried to start up the familiar call and answer.
‘Free, free Palestine!’
No one responded, and he too fell back into the silence.
