I will not cheer for regime change in Iran!

11 Jan

I’ve got to a point where the reasoning of liberals has begun to sicken me. (Others hit that point years ago and have taken me to task for my foot-dragging on this score.)

Whomsoever the most powerful narrative managers on the planet are currently selling as Evil Incarnate To Be Taken Out by a US Empire which uniquely and by a vast margin over all rivals merits that label, I can guarantee the spin will addle the brains of retards the world over.

So when the Iran protests vied this week for front page treatment by our systemically corrupt media with Maduro kidnapping, crude threats over Greenland and gaslighting over murder in Minneapolis, I wondered where I’d find time to set out my own response: that nothing can match the US empire for pure unadulterated evil. This is not opinion but cold arithmetic.

Look no further than Gaza, its genocide impossible without Washington backing.

Three points on the Iran protests:

  • Our venal politicians and corrupt media have every interest in misrepresenting them, mostly by omitting crucial facts; such as America’s role in Iran prior to the fall of its puppet Shah.
  • The anger of Iranians is a direct result of US imposed sanctions which have crippled the economy and were designed to cause lethal suffering. (As for aspects less obviously economic I wrote years ago in the context of Syria, which similarly fried liberal brains, of the “universalist” absurdity  of demanding that besieged states in the path of empire designs be held to the same standards as liberal democracies whose freedoms assume an affluence premised on exploiting the global south.)
  • It is stupid or cowardly or both to voice anger over the misdeeds, real or manufactured, of the ayatollahs in Tehran while doing nothing about the crimes of empire.

Meanwhile and once again, Caitlin has caught my own response to such manipulation with her post today.

You Can’t Cheer For Regime Change In Iran Without Also Cheering For The US Empire

At this point it’s probably worth recalling that earlier this month Mike Pompeo tweeted that Mossad agents were intimately involved in the unrest, saying, “Happy New Year to every Iranian in the streets. Also to every Mossad agent walking beside them.”

(Mike Pompeo, recall, is the former CIA Director and later US Secretary of State who bragged in April 2019, that “we lied, we cheated, we stole. It’s like we had entire training courses … “  see my recent post, When criminals show their true face.)
